A Look at the 2018 Buick Enclave Luxury SUV

When the Enclave appeared in 2008 it had some pretty big shoes to fill - replacing several cars in the Buick lineup. The first generation was quite popular, enduring a 10-year production run before being replaced with the far more up to date iteration that we have in the 2018 model now available at Okotoks GM.

The latest Enclave is far more up-scale, and can go into battle against some competing premium SUVs. The engine is very capable, safety and comfort technology is on par with its most advanced contemporaries, and the design of the vehicle is very modern and even improves upon the first generation.

A Stunningly Elegant Design

The Enclave is beautiful. Its modern look brings an elegant front with stylish headlights whose line continues along the grille with the Buick badge in the middle. However, the most appealing part of the 2018 Enclave is its profile. Sweeping, elegant lines are perfectly proportioned and angled making the large body look graceful rather than bulky. In the era of beautiful SUVs, the Enclave is one of the best looking vehicles to date.

Engine and Drive

The latest Enclave is powered by a potent 3.6 V6 with 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic which shifts effortlessly and keeps consumption at 11.2 l per 100 km combined for the FWD model and 11.7 for the AWD one.The Enclave comes in FWD form or Intelligent AWD with an additional benefit of an active twin-clutch rear differential.

Despite its respectable size, the new Enclave is far more interesting to drive, mostly due to the added power from the engine, a sharp new gearbox and substantial weight loss.

A Fresh New Interior

The 2018 Enclave is a roomy 7-seater with plenty of storage space, active noise cancelling and modernized interior. Legroom for the second and third rows has increased and third-row access is also improved. Maximum cargo capacity is 2764 l.

Design-wise, the interior is a huge success. The touchscreen is cleverly integrated into the dashboard, complementing the overall look. A beautiful sweeping line hugs the side vents and underpins the entire dashboard, adding a high level of elegance to even in the base trim level.

An Abundance of Trim levels

There are four unique trim levels for the new Enclave.

The base form comes with 18” wheels, rear parking sensors, LED headlights, remote engine start, keyless entry and engine start, dedicated climate zones for all three rows, heated and power adjustable front seats, adjustable chairs in the second row and 60/40 split for the third, 8” touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, rear view camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Step a notch up and you get the Essance, with added safety features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, leather seats, air ionization and more optional features such as AWD, tow pack for up to 5,000 lbs, navigation, sunroof and a top-down 360 parking camera which is very useful for tight parking spaces.

The Premium adds more, both in terms of design and safety. It comes with low-speed forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, front parking sensors and lane keep assist. On the comfort front the Premium adds driver-seat memory, heated steering wheel and second-row seats, vented front seats, Bose sound system with 10 speakers and power folding third-row seats.

The Avenir sits at the top with standard navigation system, larger touchscreen, 20” wheels, sunroof, premium leather and better interior materials, wireless charging, rear view mirror with camera display and even more optional features such as adaptive suspension and cruise control, automatic braking and even grille shutters which improve aerodynamics for high-speed cruising.
