When to Get an Oil Change

Aside from directly asking our service department here at Okotoks Chevrolet Buick GMC, there are some things you can think about when deciding to change the oil in your vehicle.  We'll go over a few of them with you and give you a better idea when you should change your oil.

One of the best ways to make sure you are changing your oil on a good schedule is to consult the owners manual that came with your vehicle.  This is just a general idea of when you should change oil and doesn't apply to all situations.  As we'll see later there are other factors at play here.

How often do you drive your car?  This can be a large factor in how often you should change your oil.  If you drive on longer commutes, you should think about changing your oil more often than if you drive it less frequently.  An engine can take more abuse if you drive if through more stop and go traffic.

Speaking of which, how you drive matters as well.  If you drive it in more stop and go traffic, you will put more wear and tear on your vehicle than if you drove in a freeway type environment.   Stop and go traffic is another way you can put more wear and tear on the engine.

As you can see there are a many factors in deciding when to change your oil in your vehicle. Cars.com offers more information on when you should change your oil and is a great reference.  However, please don't hesitate to give us call or even better stop in at our showroom and talk to one of our Calgary car dealers
